Third workshop of the project "Use of Joint Investigation Teams (JIT) to fight Trafficking in Human Beings in the Western Balkans at the local level (JIT THB WB)" wraps up in Sarajevo


From 15 to 17 April 2014, Sarajevo hosted the third workshop of the project "Use of Joint Investigation Teams (JIT) to fight Trafficking in Human Beings in the Western Balkans at the local level – JIT THB WB", organized by the project team of Slovenian Ministry of Interior and Slovenian Police under the leadership of Sandi Čurin.

The goal of the workshop was for participants, Bosnian and Herzegovian prosecutors and police officers working at the local level, to get familiar with the concept of Joint Investigation Teams (JIT) and their establishment and to review the existing national and international legislation in this field. The participants gained knowledge on indentifying the role and potential forms of support of Europol and Eurojust in the process of establishment of JITs and carried out a case study. In addition to the Project team experts, the speakers at the workshop included international experts in the field of Joint Investigation Teams from Europol and Eurojust. The workshop participants received practical knowledge on establishment of joint investigation teams for efficient fight against trafficking in human beings.

 

The JIT THB WB project is a continuation of the preceding project "The introduction of the requirements for establishing Joint Investigation Teams (JIT) to fight Trafficking in Human Beings in the South-eastern Europe (JIT THB)", which concluded in June 2013. The current project kicked off in October 2013 with the opening conference in Sofia, Bulgaria. The project, whose carrier is the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Slovenia in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Bulgaria, is funded by the European Commission's ISEC Programme for prevention and fight against crime.
